Diapers.....girly!! *Lots of Pics*

This is my first time making a Girly Newborn Diaper!! I didn't start cloth diapering Annika until she was around 6 or 7 months old. I made Van a few newborn diapers, but not to many (I'm afraid I didn't do a very good job clothe diaper). I plan to stick with it this time as it seems I will have 2 in diapers at the same time (Van told me he's not going to potty train)! ;)

I think they turned out pretty good for my first time serging diapers and using the Darling Diaper Unlimited Pattern.

More Cloth Diapers

You can never have enough! We are way behind on needing these! Poor Van is starting to finally out grow the nb/small (not sure of the size). I do really like this pattern (it's the same one I posted about here).
Annika was eating a cookie the other day (we don't often do cookies at 9a.m. but mommy really wanted one so Annika had to have one also)! While taking pictures I hear Annika say, "Mommy look I made a diaper also." I look over and this is what I find! ;)

New diaper...new pattern

Van is in serious need of some new diapers! So yesterday I had a bit of time while the kiddos were napping. I finished it last night when they both went to bed and after playing a mean game of Skippo with PD (in which I won!!) ;)

I started cloth diapering Annika when she was about 7 months old and it was my intention to cloth diaper Van from birth (well I did off and on). My main problem with him is that I don't have a lot of diapers that fit all that well (he's a pretty skinny little guy), which means I need to make some (and sewing time is hard to come by with 2 kiddos).

But I was able to find a new pattern (free) at Making it Little by Little I have to say this was my first time making this pattern and I LOVE it!!! I really like how it's narrower between the legs so he doesn't look so bow-legged. I will definitely be making more. Although I have to make them in a smaller size since the mediums are a bit big on my little skinny man.

I made this with flannel outer and flannel inner with a hidden layer of fleece, not real thick but I'm able to add an insert and hopefully it will dry quicker.

More Baby Things....

So I've decided to take a break from moving things around and paintings (since we are in need of taking things to the thrift store). And also getting paint. My husband decided that he wanted to get trim put up in the downstairs bedroom before we moved our bed down there so we are going to work on that this weekend. Along with finishing up painting Annika's last wall before we move her into her "big girl" room and we will have it all done before her birthday party in one week! I can't believe she's going to be two in one week!!

On to the Baby things...I have been trying very hard to get enough diapering items for this baby coming in June and I have succeeded!! I wouldn't mind making a few cute garments I have a gown in progress but need to move my sewing machine back downstairs near the ironing board! :)

First up...Inserts for our One Size diapers...Some for the new baby and 3 for Annika (she's testing one right now). As for the 5 small squares at the bottom, I don't know what to do with them but I hated wasting the microfiber (in the center of them).

Next up...these were suppose to be prefold diapers...but I can't figure out any fold that works so I'm going to use them for spit rags (especially if this ones spits up as much as A did)!! I did the green one today and the brown and turquoise one earlier last year.

A New Cloth Diaper Pattern

I found a new cloth diaper pattern from one of my fellow mommies over at the Diaper Sewing Diva boards. It super easy to sew and worked great for A under a cover! It was a bit loose, around the legs but I will be able to add some elastic to it. I have made 2 for the new baby (have 3 more to work on) but my machine is giving me problems!

Here's some pics...the best part the fabric if flannel from a pillowcase I purchased at a thrift store for 25 cents and the fleece was pretty much free. These are the only two layers in the diaper so it will dry fast in the dryer (also a good thing)! You can add an extra insert if you need it otherwise just use it as is.

I almost forgot it's called a QSFW (quick snap flap wrap) however we don't use snaps here (I use Velcro instead).

I'll post a picture of one w/ elastic a little later when I have time (I don't have a picture taken yet and I think I might go lay down a bit longer since it's only 5:55 a.m. and I've been up since 4 a.m. It's going to be a busy day.

Home & Finished a Goal

We made it home!
You may ask yourself why the picture of the cellphone.


We realized last night how much we really appreciate our cellphone. Not only b/c it makes calls in times of distress but also because it works great for a flashlight! After driving 5 hours in the car we were about 15 minutes from our house and we got a flat tire. We had to pull everything out of the trunk to get out the spare and the jack. It was 10:45 pm and raining! We got everything ready and long and behold we didn't have a flashlight. However, we learned quickly that the cellphone makes a great flashlight. So in the rain and lit by the back light of my phone David was able to change the tire. When we got home we walked in the door and realized that the power was out. Sooo out came the cellphone again (the flashlight was not put back where it was suppose to be) we were able to find a lighter and light candles...all in all it was a busy and creative night.

Enough about the trip home, how about some projects?!? Well today after unpacking the car this morning and putting things away. I was able to finish 2 very much needed diapers. I made these out of a couple of old shirts of mine. I'm happy with the way they turned out and I am doubly happy because they have a great stretch to them!!! Hopefully they will fit for a bit longer. If any of you are in dire need of wanting to sew diapers you know where to find me! :) I am in need of some larger ones!

Sewing Saturday

Well I finally finished some more cloth diapers!

These are the two I mentioned in last weeks thread that I did not have pictures of (the two diapers don't look good together colorwise, it's a good thing A only wears them one at a time). I got both fabrics for really cheap (the blue free and the yellow from a garage sale that was pack a back of cloth for $1).


I also made some more cloth diapers this week. I have 2 finished and 1 almost finished (red stripes) I need to finish sewing the velcro on (I ran out of thread). This was also fairly cheap fabric (yellow 1 yrd for $2 at Walmart and the red stripes was an old shirt of mine). I have finally worked with the pattern enough that I found a fit I really like. I really like the skinnier tabs as opposed to the large ones in the above diapers). I also like using only one layer of t-shirt in the center and a microfiber towel as opposed to using 2 layers of t-shirt and microfiber towel (it seems to dry on laundry day faster). :)


I just purchased some more flannel from walmart for $1 a yard (that is a steal as it is usually $2.97). I was looking at all the flannel material and it was mixed in with the rest. It is white w/ blue pin stripes. However I just got on a website last night and found some cloth diapers brand new for really cheap ($8) which is pretty cheap for an AIO (no cover needed). I purchased three of them so it looks like I may have enough cloth diapers for now, so I am going to put my cloth diaper sewing aside and work on some other things. I will save the flannel for next time around.

And last but not least...I finished the car organizer. It turned out pretty good. I had to vamp the pattern a bit b/c I found out our headrests in our car don't come out so I will use elastic and just put it on the seat that way. This went together really quick and was super easy. My only problem was that when I sewed the top pocket on I didn't pay attention to well and it ended up being kind of crooked but it will still work and since we are leaving in 4 days I've decided to just leave it and fix it when we come back.

Sewing Saturday

It's been a pretty busy week with little sewing involved. I did finish up the cloth diapers for a friend and shipped them out on Tuesday. I also sewed A two diapers this week. The pictures are still on my camera so I will show them another time. Here are the ones I just finished...



This week I plan on making a car organizer that you hang on the back of one of the front seats. I have some fabric that I purchased from Walmart for $1/yrd. I used some of it to make cloth shopping bags for when David's trips to Aldis. But I have enough that I am going to try this. I thought it would be helpful for our trip to Washington in 11 days. Did I mention we were going to Washington State. David's brother is getting married and we decided to take a 2 1/2 week vacation there...we are very excited!!

Sewing Saturday

This week has been a somewhat busy week. We have had a lot going on. I was able to get 3 diapers sewn (for a friend in Montana), I however do not have pictures. Sorry! I have found a pattern online that I want to try for A. It's a cute top and I'm hoping to just make it longer for a dress for her Uncle Geoff and soon to be Aunt Jenny's wedding in just 25 days!

Sew....Sew Saturday

Sorry to have not posted for a week. I was working on my bloggy giveaway and decided to take the week off blogging (like I blog on here much anyways)lol! Okay so I did get a couple of things sewn this week. One I have a picture of the other I don't.

So here's the one I have a picture of...

For those of you who know me, I am not the most girly-girl. I have always been a tomboy (more so when I was little...ask my mom. i.e. I have always loved baseball caps, I own about 45-50 of them now, most still at my mom's house. I have about 10 here. I would never wear pink, bows, flowers, or hearts). So when I found this fabric in the remnants from Ben Franklin for real cheap I couldn't pass it up. It's a bug print (lady bugs and butterflies, but it's in pinks and purples) because I have a feeling my little girl is going to be a girly-girl. *sigh* Here's a close up of the fabric.

My current project is a twin size quilt for when we move Annika to a big girl bed (which may be sooner than we think)...NO I'm not pregnant!!!! Actually, we've been going in her room to get her and the crib railing keeps falling down and we're not sure why, so instead of buying a new crib right now (since we are not in need of one) we are looking into possibly just purchasing her a twin size bed and putting up a railing (so she won't fall on her head). :) I have started sewing this together but do not have pictures, but here are the fabrics I am using.

It is not going to be anything way fancy b/c I cannot do anything way fancy, but I think it will look cute...at least the fabric will make it look cute. :)

I made these really cute top for Annika using the pillowcase dress patterns below.

Fabric: (no pillowcase here) I purchased the first fabric from Walmart for $1/yard (who would of thought).

The second top: I found this fabric sitting around my house in a skirt I made for myself but did not wear.Yet another picture of my little model:

Note: I varied the patterns a bit because my arm wholes did not look the greatest, so I added the ribbon around each arm whole instead of just for the ties

I also "whipped" this skirt up for Annika. It's a little big yet, but one of the easiest things I have ever made. I got the fabric from Walmart (you know the stuff that all you have to do is make it the length you want and then sew the one seam, everything else is done for you). I found it for $2 and it was just her size. I have enough fabric to make her about 2 more in larger sizes.

I finally embellished the prefold that I dyed about a month ago!

Here's the best I can do. I am still learning how to put these things on. I also have to say that I love the snappi (this has made using prefolds sooo easy)!! For those who do not know the snappi is the little contraption on the diaper used instead of pins.

$200 Diaper Auction

Yes you read that correct!! I was searching on my Diaper Sewing Diva's site yesterday and came across this web page for Good Mama Diapers. I was shocked by this! I don't know what the whole hype about these diapers are. But $269 (as results from an auction)?!? I am fairly new to cloth diapering and I have heard ladies say great things about these diapers, but I personally would never pay for one (espeicially because all your kids do when in these diapers...well come on ladies think about it)! :) When I started cloth diapering these diapers were around $30 a diaper.

Here's the picture of the dipe that sold for $296 (by the keep in mind for how cute it is that it is a fitted diaper which means you have to put a cover over it and no one would be able to see the color and design).
