Recipe: Stack-A-Dinner

I realized it's been a while since I have posted any recipes. Here's a simple and very tasty recipe! I got this recipe from my mother-in-law (she is a wonderful cook).

It's called Stack-A-Dinner

Ingredients (meat mixture):

1 pound of ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onions
8 ounce can of tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup water
dash of pepper

1. Brown the ground beef and onions together, drain the grease
2. Add the rest of the ingredients: bring to a boil

You will need to cook some rice (follow directions on bag or box) I usually make one cup of rice (before cooked) and it is plenty for our small family of three.

Spread rice on a plate, top with meat mixture, peas (warmed up frozen peas) and shredded cheddar cheese.

I make the meat mixture in large portions and freeze it in Ziploc baggies just in case we are in need of a quick meal or in case someone else we know is in need of a meal.

Give it a try and ENJOY!!!

Dress and Skirt

It's been a while since I last posted. I have had a few lazy days which has been nice. I have actually had time ti sew!
Here are a few thing that I have gotten done.

A lazy day skirt for A (pardon the crying....she didn't want to stand still).

This is a dress I made for her. I was pretty excited about this one for a few reason.

  1. I have never done bias tape and it turned out pretty good (around the neck).
  2. It was my first time doing a zipper which went in a lot easier than I thought.
  3. I made it with no pattern just looked at another dress took the measurements from that one and Waaalaaa (not quite sure how you spell that, but you get the idea).
And....because I can because it's my blog.....Here is the picture I'm going to use for A's 18 month photo. She has not been to a professional photographer since she was 5 months old, while those pictures turned out adorable, there is just something about outside pictures I love! And those blue eyes!!

Increase Fabric Stash

Yesterday I went to see my husband's aunt and uncle and they had a neighbor lady that was getting put into an assisted living home. She had a seamstress shop. The children of this lady were cleaning up her shop (boy do they have a job infront of them). They offered me first dibbs to go in and take a look at all the fabric she had. She must of had over 1,000 yards of fabric. I went and picked an arm load of fabric (including fleece, eyelit, cotton, and flannel). The great thing about it is that I got it all for just $10 (about 20 yards of fabric). I so wish I had more time to look and more money to buy because there was a lot and it was cheap!

So now I need your help....what do I make with all the flannel? Some cloth diapers of course! But I have LOTS

What do I make with all the fleece??

What do I make with all the eyelit?? I'm going to make a pillow case dress for A. But I have a lot....any suggestions would be great.

I however cannot add pictures at this point because we have seemed to misplace our camera...(go figure when I need it the most)! :)

White dress pink polka dots

Yep that's the dress I'm working on. Only one problem.....bias tape!! I have no idea how to use it! I will seek help from one of my sewing neighbors to teach me.

This is the pattern I'm using to make A a dress for my sister's wedding. I wanted to try making it before I acually used satin. It won't be the exact style but close...the style I am using I think will be easier b/c no bias tape...but I figured I'd have to learn sooner or later. :)

It's a very cute pattern and VERY easy to sew! I thought I'd make it in a bigger size just in case well it's very large and will not fit Annika for a long while.

To finish it off I need to do bias tape, zipper, ribbon around the waist and hem the skirt. Not to much (except of course the bias tape).

New Capris!

Well I just recently bought a new pattern for Gauchos for Annika. I love them!! The pattern wasn't to hard to figure out. It took me a little longer to sew than what the pattern said (but that was because of me) the pattern was straight forward and easy to follow. The finished product: ADORABLE! I had the fabric sitting around and thought I'd give it a try. The nice thing is the pattern and instructions come as a pdf and you print it at home and have it on your computer for as long as you have the computer! :) You can make them either shorts, capris, or pants. The nice thing is NO elastic (yep you heard me right no elastic)! The other nice thing is that these fit very nicely over cloth diapers.

Here are a few pictures...there the best I can do as my little model doesn't like to stand still for the camera (or anything for that matter).

So you ask where did I get such a cute Gauchos pattern!?! Well from here:

She has a few other patterns available and also has some free tutorials....even one for a maternity skirt.
