$200 Diaper Auction

Yes you read that correct!! I was searching on my Diaper Sewing Diva's site yesterday and came across this web page for Good Mama Diapers. I was shocked by this! I don't know what the whole hype about these diapers are. But $269 (as results from an auction)?!? I am fairly new to cloth diapering and I have heard ladies say great things about these diapers, but I personally would never pay for one (espeicially because all your kids do when in these diapers...well come on ladies think about it)! :) When I started cloth diapering these diapers were around $30 a diaper.

Here's the picture of the dipe that sold for $296 (by the keep in mind for how cute it is that it is a fitted diaper which means you have to put a cover over it and no one would be able to see the color and design).

If you are interested you can head over and enter another one of their auctions for a similar diaper (just different colors)! :)

Recipe Tuesday

Not to long ago my friend, Sarah from Toddler World had a post on chocolate chip cookies. Whether you like them soft and chewy or crunchy. Well if you like your chocolate chip cookies soft and chewy or crunchy this recipe is for you!!

This is David's favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe (mine too)! It's from a neighbor lady that everyone calls "Grandma Gabi" (she is the near by grandma to all the kids whose real grandma lives faraway). Annika just loves her!!

This is for a huge batch, but you can cut it in half. I challenge you to make the big batch the first time and give some to someone else.

2 cups shortening
1 1/2 cup white sugar
3 cups packed brown sugar
3 tsp. vanilla
6 eggs (beaten)
6 cups & 2 tbsp of flour
3 tsp salt
3 tsp baking soda
3 cups chocolate chips
2 cups nuts (optional) We don't use nuts in our house...

Mix everything together and bake at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes (whether you like them gooey or crunchy).

And for those of you (like me) who don't want to take the time to cut it in half I will do it for you!

1 cup shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs (beaten)
3 cups & 1 tbsp flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
1 cup of nuts (optional)

again 350 degrees 5-10 minutes

ENJOY!

Sew....Sew Saturday

Okay I'm 2 hours early but I was so excited to share what I made this week!! My biggest two project were my shopping bag (for when David goes to Aldis) and my prefolds.....

Here they are....

First off is my prefolds. These turned out better than I expected! The colors are GREAT. Now if I could figure out how to put them on Annika!!!! I might just end up selling them if I cannot figure it out. I will have to say I like my velcro fitted instead of these snappi prefolds.

I have to say I
love love love these colors...

Next is a prefold I embellished with some left over cloth I had sitting around. It is brown w/ cream polka dots. While it looks great this was hard to do b/c the material was sooo stretchy! I think if I had regular material it would of been a lot better and may have looked a little nicer.

And last is the grocery bag. I have only made one so far. The pattern was super easy! I can't remember the exact pattern but if you google "grocery bag sewing instructions" you will find a ton of instructions. I will look around and see if I can't find the exact pattern and share it with you later.

Stampin' Up Panel Member...

About a year ago I signed up to be on a panel to answer questions about stampin' up products (which I absolutely love) and each quarter they would send you a "goodie" box for helping out. The stuff they sent were retired inventory, which did not bother me one bit. I'm all for free stuff!

The panel director sent me an e-mail the other day that almost had me in tears...lol. They no longer needed my input which meant no more stampin' up stuff. This made me very sad.

Today I got my last "goodies" box.

Thought I'd share my bitter/sweet day with stampin' up today!

Recipe Tuesday

MmMmMmmm....who doesn't like sticky buns?!?!

Here's simple recipe...using the microwave

3 tbsp. butter
1/3 c. Brown Sugar
1 tbsp. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 can refrigerator biscuits (these can be bought cheap at aldis)
Optional: 1/2 c. chopped nuts (I don't like nuts so we don't use them)

In 8 inch round glass dish combine: butter, sugar, water and cinnamon. Cook on high in microwave for 1 minute. Stir as soon as butter is melted. Stir in nuts. Separate biscuits. Cut each into quarters. Place into sugar mixture. Stir carefully to coat each piece. Push biscuits to outside of dish and place a custard dish in center upside down. Cook on high 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. Remove custard dish and let stand 2 minutes before pulling sections apart.

Yields: six servings.

Tip: dump sticky buns onto a serving platter, put round plate over buns upside down then turn over. Remove custard dish afterwards.

Instead of using two different "bowls" we use one of those pans (similar to an angel food but microwaveable) with the spout that comes up the top (sorry for not knowing exact name). :)

We are not huge breakfast eaters here, but this is one recipe we make at least once a week.

Sew....Sew Saturday (Kind of)

Okay so I'm a bit late on the post (2 hours). I was at the neighbor's house yesterday and didn't have time to post. But I am wide awake now (it's 2:45 am) so I thought I'd write my sewing/craft post and share a few pics.

One project I worked on this week was a tutu for Annika. Not that she needs one. On Wednesday she took a 5 hour nap (that was not a typo I said 5 hour). :0) I needed to find something to do and I realized I had some white tulle downstairs (we used it in our wedding and I keep to borrow it out to others) well, needless to say every time I get it back I always get extra (sometimes a bag full). So I took some tulle and some elastic and made a tutu. It turned out pretty cute. I have no pics of it. But I will soon so I will post when I have pics.

My next project this week was to finish putting velcro on a diaper that I started a couple of weeks ago. I was on a board and saw all these babies with their cute college diapers on (where their parents attended) and realized I couldn't buy fabric at a store w/ my college team on it (Maranatha Baptist Bible College) so I decided to make one on my own. I just took an old t-shirt that a bleach stain on it and this is what I came up with...the only thing I would of changed was move the words a little lower on the bum.

The next Diaper is one that I made out of some flannel that I got at a thrift store (white background with lots of small pink polka dots). It turned out to be one of my best diapers yet. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I got adventurous enough to add a little velcro on the outside so my skinny minnie could wear it now (to overlap the tabs).

Stay tuned next week I am hoping to make some cloth grocery bags for David to use when he shops at Aldi (I know you can buy them for cheap, but I am in a sewing mood and it doesn't look to hard and the fabric was only $1/yrd). :) And yes David does the grocery shopping because it is near Central Seminary where he is working on his Master of Divinity).

Dessert Tuesday....change to Recipe Tuesday

I have bad a very bad blogger lately. I found out about a week ago that I had a sinus infection and have been down and out for a bit now. I am now starting to feel better.

I have decided to change my Dessert Tuesday to a Recipe Tuesday! I have this really good recipe for some roast beef sandwiches.

VERY Easy and VERY Good..... I give it * * * * * (5 stars)

Roast Beef Sandwiches, Au Jus

2 large roasts (I use the cheapest that I can find)
2 large onions, sliced thinly
1 large green pepper, sliced thinly (more if you really like green pepper)
4 Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 packages Lipton Beef and Mushroom Soup Mix (I have used Beef and Onion too)
If you want to add salt and pepper, that is up to you.

Place the two roasts in a roasting pan and bake at 200°. Do not add any water. I usually do this just before I go to bed and let it cook all night. In the morning take the roasts out. Drain the juice into a container and let cool until the fat comes to the top. Skim the fat. Let the roast cool until it is easy to handle. Take the fat off and break it up into bite size pieces (it should just fall apart). Place the meat into a large crockpot or if you don't have one, put it back in the roasting pan. Add the juice back into the meat.

Melt two Tablespoons butter in a large frying pan. Add the onion and cook until soft. Add the brown sugar and mix well. Add the onion to the beef.

Melt two more Tablespoons butter and add the green pepper. Cook until soft and add to the beef.

Add the Soup Mix, salt and pepper to the beef and mix. Add more water if it is not juicy enough. Slow cook until you are ready to eat.

We enjoy putting cheese on top: cheddar, provolone, or Swiss are good.
